1.2 Understanding co-benefits at local level 2019-01-07T14:00:17+01:00

Objective

Features the existing co-benefits for cities when implementing the global agendas.

Description

There are great co-benfits that arise from mutually impelemeting the several global agendas. However also trade-offs exist, also when it comes the relationships among all the 17 SDGs. It is important to understand and analyse cities priorities, but also to promote and integrated approach to the overall implementation, in order to harness the co-benefits / synergies and minimize the trade-offs.

There are already tools / concepts analysing the synergies among some of the agendas. For example the IGES SDG Interlinkages Analysis & Visualisation Tool (looking at interlinkages between SDGs) NDC-SDG Connections tool and tools linking up the SDGs to the New Urban Agenda or Sendai Framework.

The application of the tool can be performed with two different settings, one using just the provision of the information virtually, and one in a live-setting (workshop) providing a presentation on the topic and a group work regarding the challenges.

Understanding of synergies and connections among agendas. (Use of tools for descriptive understanding, also analysing how could that be used in the local context) and list of co-benefits for each global Agenda (Agenda 2030/SDGs, New Urban Agenda, Paris Agreement, Sendai Framework for Action, and Addis Ababa Action Agenda) from the local government perspective.
